The Mind Blowing Hobbies That Can Actually Save You Money in the 2020!
I am the kind of person that believes that a good life simply means having enough time for leisure activities.Over the years, it has become clear to me that my level of happiness and mental well-being has a huge connection to free times where I have fun doing what I love.
There are many things that I do during my spare time and enjoy doing them. I have cataloged some things as frugality instead of hobbies.
Why?
Those activities are things that really saved me money and even earn me a little money. I have listed hobbies that you may want to try in your spare time. Most of these hobbies are what people do to earn a living.
Each of these is practiced by myself, someone from my family or a close friend.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #1:COOKING AT HOME
Cooking is an amazing hobby and money saver. Do you know that once you make cooking your hobby, going to a restaurant or buying pre-packed foods will reduce drastically. Cooking your own food saves you a lot of money.
At the beginning, you will probably do some really mediocre meals, but you can improve quickly from that stage.
With $30, you can make a good meal for three. All you need is just to invest an hour or two and you have cooked a delicious meal thereby saving half that amount if you bought from a restaurant.
If you can show me a restaurant where I can buy good food for $10, I’d love to visit it. Simply devote your time and energy to reducing food costs.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #2: CARPENTRY
Having an interest in carpentry can help you save a lot of money on furniture in two ways.
The first way is that you can make your own furniture. You can build all kinds of things, including desks, chairs, bed frames, bookcases, etc.
The second way that carpentry can save you money is by renovating used furniture. The best way to buy furniture at low prices is to go to garage and estate sales, where you can find real bargains.
If you know how to work with wood and can renovate existing furniture, you can make a five-dollar table look like a $500 table.
Because furniture is usually sold so cheap at garage sales, this method can save you a lot of money
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #3: DECORATING HOUSES
The house owners want their houses to be well decorated along with the cleanliness. This can be a good option if your house is the next photo highlighted in a Better Homes & Garden or a similar magazine for home decoration.
The description of the work can vary from the strict decoration of the interior rooms or it can also be extended to the exterior landscape, as well as to the appropriate lawn decorations for the season.
A popular time for this service is Christmas when you can hang the Christmas lights and also decorate the family Christmas tree.
SENSIBLE HOBBIES TO SAVE MONEY #4: DO IT YOURSELF
Do you have interior designing skills or other skills, you can make money or save money by doing it yourself.
I have this friend who moved to a new house that is complete garbage. He utilized his interior design skills to refurnish the whole house. He repaired everything by himself.
If you are into real estate, you can buy houses that are not completed yet and finish them to top standard. After the restoration of the building, you can then sell them off and move to another house.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #5: TEACH A FITNESS CLASS
If you have access to a gym or a meeting place such as a church or a community center, you can earn money by teaching an exercise class. You can receive payments per student in most cases. You can teach aerobics, strength, stretching or yoga for example.
With one of the most popular New Year Resolutions related to health and fitness, there is a “permanent” demand for fitness classes.
HOBBIES OF MINE TO SAVE MONEY #6: EXERCISE
It doesn’t cost anything, but it has a profound positive impact on your medical bills throughout your life.
Incorporating simple exercise into your life; things like cardio exercising regularly, doing some light weight exercises and choosing heavy things regularly, will reduce your chances of getting a lot of chronic diseases and conditions and make you feel better. Exercise costs nothing at all.
My son is currently focusing on programs that increase his size, decreases blood pressure and increase strength. As usual, when it reaches its target number with each one, it will move to the most difficult versions. I try to walk every day, walk through my neighborhood and, often, take a walk through the nearby shopping mall. I also like to bike to the nearby library.
The total cost of everything is zero. However, when I do this consistently, I feel really good, and I know from the medical perspective that exercise will drastically reduce the chances of many medical conditions that require expensive treatment.
For me, it’s a great benefit, one that keeps me committed to this hobby. You turn your time into lower medical bills.
THE JOY OF FISHING HOBBY #7: HUNTING AND FISHING
Hunting and fishing used to be the only way people had meat to eat.
I had fun fishing with my father while I was growing up. If your hobby is hunting or fishing, you probably spend a lot less on meat than the rest of us.
You may still have to pay for processing if you hunt deer, but it’s still a hobby to save money.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #9:GARDENING
While I was in Charlotte, I had a garden behind my house with varying degrees of success. I just moved to Florida and I recently added one behind my house too.
Even in the years when the garden is not the best, it still produces. During good years, it produces tons of products, much more than I can handle.
If you have a farm, you can spend as little as $15 in seeds per annum and get a lot of harvest in return. You turn your time into a lower food bill.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #9: CARS
Car dealers are famous for charging too much and for being unscrupulous. If you know the details of your own car and can diagnose and solve problems yourself you will end up saving a lot of money.
The auto shops charge a large amount of money for parts and labor, which covers the resulting invoice. In addition, you may be charged for repairs that are not even necessary in the first place. It is definitely money saving to know how to work on cars yourself.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #10: COMPUTATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
If you are good with computers and have an interest in technology, you will never have to take your hardware to the store to repair it.
As in the automotive industry, repairing or upgrading your computer can cost an unreasonable amount of money by charging so much for parts and labor.
Are you technically able to fix and upgrade your computers? If yes than you’d know the best place to buy hardware and you don’t have to pay a technician for the job.
It can keep you always connected safely with computers and technology. If you are a new computer expert, you are likely to be exposed to online scams and phishing programs that can steal your identity and savings.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #11:TUTOR
Are you academically intelligent? Thought about tutoring of elementary, secondary or university students?
Depending on your level of experience, hourly rates start at $ 10 per hour, but you may be able to earn up to $ 100 per hour.
You can search for local ads for tutors or join an online site likeTutor.com to connect with local students.
Other sites to consider include StudyPool or Chegg that are more oriented to online tutoring.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #11: SEWING
Another money saver is sewing. Do you know that if you can extend the life of your garment all by yourself, you can save yourself a lot of dollars in repairing those clothes?
Knowing how to fix a small tear in your garment and add a button saves you the money for a new dress.
If you are talented at that, you can do things like buttoning your pants or shirts or modifying your clothes or even making your own clothes.
It can be really good to repair clothes that are in bad shape, The best part? You are converting your time into lower clothing bills.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #13:PRESERVING THE FOOD
Food preservation allows you to convert the additional food you have on hand into items that can be stored in the long term and used later. There are many ways to do this. Some of the most common is canning, freezing and drying.
Actually, it’s a very nice process if you get involved. It’s fun to take a strainer to turn a pile of tomatoes into tomato sauce, then put them in jars for later storage.
I also like to freeze many vegetables in one-liter containers or freezer bags for later use.
Most of the containers I use are reusable, so there is not much cost in terms of materials. This hobby helps with future savings on our food bills.
HOBBY TO SAVE MONEY #14: PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you like taking photos, you can take part in this hobby to save a whole lot of money. Take the photograph of your family yourself, cover the event your friend is hosting yourself and save them the dollars in hiring a professional photographer or a portrait studio.
I intend to open an Etsy store. I just bought a Camera five days ago for my product photography. Instead of hiring a photographer to take the Pictures, I am doing it myself.
In addition, I can help with other photography services to friends for weddings.
Your fondness for photography, in the end, saves you substantial money in photography.
FINAL THOUGHT
The good thing about each of these hobbies is that even without the financial benefits, people have fun while do it.
Personally, I enjoy do enjoy these hobbies and I do not intend to stop any time soon.
I enjoy the feeling when I prepare a batch of homemade sauerkraut or make an unusual dinner for my family or start a bonfire or change the oil in a car.
There are so many things that I enjoy now that they seemed miserable when I thought about them and only by committing to try new things, I broke the initial resistance and appreciate the new things.
Now, I actually find myself with more hobbies than I possibly have time for, which is a good thing. I do not remember what it feels like to be bored!
All you need to do at this stage is to find a hobby and stick to it. It doesn’t matter if it is a frugal hobby or one which you do occasionally, the happy part is that they can add a little flavor to your life.
